แต่เดิมก่อนสร้างเขื่อนป่าสักฯ ชุมชนวัดกัณฑาพฤกษ์ เป็นชุมชนขนาดใหญ่ที่ตั้งอยู่ริมสองฝั่งแม่น้ำป่าสัก ตัววัดจะตั้งอยู่ติดกับแม่น้ำด้านทิศตะวันตกและตีนสะพานข้ามแม่น้ำป่าสัก ลงสะพานมาก็เข้าบริเวณวัดเลย ถัดออกไปก็แวดล้อมไปด้วยชุมชนบ้านเรือน ดูจากสภาพร่องรอยที่เหลือในปัจจุบันจะเห็นว่าอยู่กันค่อนข้างหนาแน่น ปัจจุบัน วัดและชุมชนย้ายไปอยู่ริมเขื่อนป่าสักฯ สถานที่เดิมถูกปล่อยให้จมอยู่ใต้น้ำของเขื่อน ยามหน้าแล้งบางปีสามารถเดินทางเข้าไปที่นี่ได้
ปีนี้ 2562 ปริมาณน้ำในเขื่อนมีน้อยมาก ชาวบ้านที่เคยมีบ้าน เคยพักอาศัยใช้ชีวิตอยู่ในชุมชนแห่งนี้ มีความตั้งใจร่วมกันที่จะจัดการทำบุญบริเวณที่เคยเป็นวัดมาก่อน ซึ่งจะเป็นการจัดทำบุญขึ้นเป็นครั้งแรก หลังจากที่ย้ายชุมชนออกมา

สะพานกลางน้ำเขื่อนป่าสัก
-สะพานนี้อยู่ตรงไหนครับ
-ทางลงตรงท่าปลาบ้านมะนาวหวาน ตรงที่เป็นทะเลน้ำจืดบ้านมะนาวหวานแหล่ะครับ. ขับไปจอดตีนสะพานแล้วเดินข้ามสะพานไปบริเวณชุมชนนี้ได้

-สะพานยังใช้ได้หราค่ะไม่แชน้ำหรา
-ไม่ได้แล้วครับ รถไม่สามารถขึ้นไปได้ ตรงคอสะพานชำรุด แต่สามารถเดินขึ้นไปได้

-คอสะพานจะมีบันไดให้ขึ้นไปบนสะพานค่ะ รถขึ้นไม่ได้ แต่คนขึ้นได้ค่ะ

ถนนกลางหมู่บ้านวัดกัณฑาพฤกษ์เก่า ด้านซ้ายมือของภาพคือแม่น้ำป่าสัก มีถนนกั้นกลางระหว่างเหล่าสถูปบรรจุอัฐิกับเมรุเผาศพ ที่ยังปรากฏซากอิฐเป็นแท่นสูงให้ได้เห็น ด้านหลังของผมที่ยืนถ่ายภาพนี้คือกองฟอนเผาศพ
แต่ดั้งเดิมถนนเส้นนี้เป็นถนนหลักเพียงเส้นเดียวในการใช้เดินทางของชาวบ้านจากฝั่ง ต.ต.ข้ามสะพานไปฝั่ง ต.อ.ของแม่น้ำด้วยพาหนะ จนระยะหลังมีการตัดถนนใหม่อีกเส้น มุ่งตรงไปสะพานข้ามแม่น้ำเลย ไม่ต้องผ่านเข้ามาในหมู่บ้านด้วยถนนเส้นนี้อีก นอกเสียจากคนที่พักอาศัยหรือมีธุระในหมู่บ้าน
มีเรื่องกล่าวขานกันว่า การเดินทางผ่านบริเวณนี้ เต็มไปด้วยความอกสั่นขวัญกระเจิงเป็นอย่างยิ่งในยามค่ำคืน บางคนรำลึกด้วยอารมณ์ติดตลกว่าต้องขับรถเครื่องด้วยความเร็ว 120 กม./ชม. เมื่อผ่านตรงนี้กันเลย ถ้าลองนึกภาพบรรยากาศตาม เต็มไปด้วยต้นไม้ใหญ่ ครึ้มด้วยร่มเงาตามประสาที่ควรมี ตามบริเวณด้านหลังวัดโดยทั่วๆไป และด้วยกาลเวลาเมื่อ 20-30 ปีก่อนตาม ก็คงไม่เกินจากคำกล่าวขานนัก

กองฟอนอยู่โค้งหักศอกพอดีเลยค่ะ เวลาปั่นจักรยานภาวนาว่า โซ่รถอย่าหลุดน๊าาาาา .....
ถ้าอยู่ในหมู่บ้านจะไปสะพาน ปั่นจักรยานตามถนนซ้ายมือเป็นวัด ด้านหน้าเป็นกองฟอน(เพ่งตาไม่กระพริบ) พอถึงโค้งหักศอก ก็เลี้ยวขวาไปสะพาน
ปล: กองฟอนอยู่ห่างถนนประมาณ 200 เมตร ถ้าโดนใช้มาซื้อของในหมู่บ้านเวลาประมาณ 18.30 น. นี่เกี่ยงกันและใครจะเป็นคนไปซื้อ
แค่คิดก็หลอนแล้วคนมะนาวดั้งเดิม
ถ้าบ่อยๆก็จะชินค่ะ เลี่ยงเวลาเย็น ถ้าเลี่ยงไม่ได้ก็เลี่ยงตาไม่มอง แล้วปั่นจักรยานสุดแรงเกิด (สมัยนั้นใช้จักรยานค่ะ)
ที่น่ากลัวสุดคือมีการเผาศพและเถ้าถ่านยังแดงๆอยู่ ใช้ให้ตายก็ไม่มาค่ะ (ขอแม่เป็นพรุ่งนี้เช้าน๊าาาา)

สะพานกลางน้ำเขื่อนป่าสัก
ชาวบ้านชุมชนวัดกัณฑาพฤกษ์เดิมที่ได้ย้ายออกจากพื้นที่เขื่อน ได้ร่วมกันมาทำบุญ ตั้งกองผ้าป่า ถวายอาหารคาวหวานแด่พระสงฆ์ พร้อมร่วมอุทิศส่วนกุศลให้ญาติพี่น้องที่เสียชีวิตตั้งแต่ครั้งยังพักอาศัยอยู่ที่นี่ บริเวณข้างโบสถ์หลังเดิมที่ถูกทุบเหลือเพียงแต่ซากปูนลายปูนปั้น แล้วปล่อยให้จมอยู่ใต้ผืนน้ำกลางเขื่อนป่าสัก
