กรุงศรีอยุธยา อาณาจักรที่ยิ่งใหญ่ของไทย [21] วัดสุวรรณดาราราม
วัดสุวรรณดาราราม
วัดสุวรรณดารารามราชวรวิหาร ตั้งอยู่ริมป้อมเพชร อำเภอพระนครศรีอยุธยา จังหวัดพระนครศรีอยุธยา พระอัยกาในพระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธยอดฟ้าจุฬาโลกมหาราช โปรดให้สร้างวัดนี้ขึ้นตั้งแต่สมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยา ให้ชื่อว่าวัดทอง เป็นวัดของฝ่ายวังหน้า ต่อมาเมื่อพระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธยอดฟ้าจุฬาโลกมหาราช ทรงขึ้นครองราชย์เป็นกษัตริย์แห่งกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ ก็โปรดเกล้าให้บูรณะวัดนี้ทั้งหมด เป็นวัดของสมเด็จพระปฐมบรมมหาชนกต้นพระบรมราชวงศ์จักรี
ลักษณะสถาปัตยกรรมของวัด ตัวโบสถ์จะตกท้องช้าง ทำให้คล้ายท้องเรือสำเภา ซึ่งเป็นการเปรียบพระพุทธศาสนาดั่งนาวาธรรม อันเป็นเอกลักษณ์ของโบสถ์สมัยอยุธยา
จิตรกรรมฝาผนัง

ภายในวัดมีจิตรกรรมฝาผนังรูปยุทธหัตถีของสมเด็จพระนเรศวรมหาราช ต้นฉบับที่เคยเห็นกันในหนังสือเรียน วาดโดยพระยาอนุศาสน์จิตรกร จิตรกรเอกของพระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฎเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว รัชกาลที่ 6 ด้านบนของผนังภายในพระอุโบสถรายล้อมไปด้วยภาพเทพพนมนับร้อยองค์ลอยอยู่ในวิมาน ที่มีขนาดลดหลั่นกันตามระยะใกล้-ไกล ตามลักษณะของทัศนียภาพแบบตะวันตก ที่เคยมีการวาดขึ้นเป็นครั้งแรกในประเทศไทยสมัยพระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว รัชกาลที่ 4 ส่วนด้านล่างของผนังเป็นภาพเรื่องราวของมหาเวสสันดรชาดกและสุวรรณสามชาดก
