วัดสระศรี
วัดสระศรี เป็นวัดที่ตั้งอยู่ทางทิศตะวันตกเฉียงเหนือของวัดมหาธาตุ และเป็นโบราณสถานสำคัญตั้งอยู่บนเกาะกลางน้ำขนาดใหญ่ ชื่อว่า ตระพังตระกวน ในเขตอุทยานประวัติศาสตร์สุโขทัย
ประวัติ
วัดสระศรีไม่ปรากฏชื่อวัดสระศรีในหลักฐานด้านเอกสารและศิลาจารึก ได้รับการประกาศขึ้นทะเบียนโบราณสถานในราชกิจจานุเบกษา เล่มที่ 52 ตอนที่ 75 วันที่ 8 มีนาคม พ.ศ. 2498 ต่อมามีการขุดแต่งและบูรณะเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2496–2498 บูรณะต่อมาเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2508 และบูรณะต่อมาเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2525
โบราณสถาน
กลุ่มโบราณสถานประกอบด้วย เจดีย์ประธานทรงกลมแบบลังกาขนาดใหญ่ รูปทรงสมบูรณ์ถึงยอดมีฐานชั้นล่างรูปสี่เหลี่ยมจัตุรัส ยกพื้นสูงเป็นฐานทักษิณและมีระเบียงคดอยู่โดยรอบฐานซึ่งเชื่อว่าเคยมีแถวพระพุทธรูปประดิษฐานอยู่ ฐานกว้างยาวด้านละ 17.20 เมตร ก่อด้วยอิฐ
ฐานวิหาร อยู่ด้านหน้าหรือตะวันออกของเจดีย์ประธาน มีพระพุทธรูปปูนปั้นประดิษฐานที่ฐานชุกชี วิหารกว้าง 16 เมตร ยาว 31 เมตร เจดีย์ขนาดเล็กแบบศรีวิชัยผสมลังกา มีซุ้มพระพุทธรูปอยู่ทั้ง 4 ทิศ สภาพสมบูรณ์ ก่อด้วยอิฐ ฐานกว้างด้านละ 4 เมตร ตั้งอยู่ทางทิศใต้ของเจดีย์ประธาน มีฐานเจดีย์รายขนาดเล็ก 5 องค์
ฐานโบสถ์ ตั้งอยู่บนเกาะขนาดเล็กกลางน้ำ ด้านทิศตะวันออกของเกาะที่ตั้งกลุ่มโบราณสถานใหญ่ โดยมีสะพานไม้ข้ามต่อถึงกันได้ โบสถ์มีขนาดกว้างยาวด้านละ 10 เมตร มีเสมาหินปักโดยรอบ ที่อุโบสถตั้งอยู่กลางน้ำเพราะเป็นความเชื่อถือแบบพระพุทธศาสนาที่ใช้น้ำในความหมายของความบริสุทธิ์ของขอบเขตที่กันไว้เป็นเขตสำหรับให้พระสงฆ์ทำสังฆกรรม เรียกว่า นทีสีมา ซึ่งเป็นคตินิยมหนึ่งของลังกา ลักษณะอาคารน่าจะเป็นอาคารโถง และสระน้ำขนาดใหญ่หรือที่เรียกว่า ตระพังตระกวน เป็นสระน้ำขนาดพื้นที่ประมาณ 70 ไร่เศษ
